Mrs. Saunder’s Class

SaundersMiddle School Math and Technology Class

My Teaching Philosophy:

Middle School Math Class
Through personal experience, I know that everyone cannot learn math using the same methods, that I need to be creative, and that I need to teach concepts in several different ways to help all students to comprehend the concepts. Many people view math as a complicated and confusing subject that is to be avoided as much as possible; however people use math multiple times a day, every day. Many times they are unaware that they are performing math applications. My goal is for my students to be successful in both real world and academic math situations.

Technology Class
The integration of multimedia tools such as the Smart Board can be used to enhance lessons, engage students, and help facilitate comprehension for a generation that has grown up with using modern technology. Computers have become a staple in classrooms, homes, and workplaces. As generations experience new technology, I feel the way they learn will be affected by those technological advances. Educators need to be mindful of the way their students learn and the ever changing world they live in.

What It’s Like to Be a Student of Mine:

For middle school math, homework is assigned on Monday’s and Wednesday’s. Monday homework is due on Wednesday and Wednesday homework is due on Friday. This allows students the opportunity to ask questions in class concerning their homework. If you are having difficulty understanding your homework, email me to let me know. If you email me with difficulties, then I can adjust my next day’s lesson plan to cover any areas that students are struggling with. I like to show more than one way to solve a problem. Different students learn in different ways, and we need to use our strengths to help us succeed. I like to integrate computer based lessons into the curriculum. I also expect everyone in class to participate in activities and discussions. Remember: Math is FUN!

For technology class, students will learn to type/practice typing one day a week. Learning to type is essential for high school, college, and work success. Students will research various topics; learn how some sites do not provide accurate information, and technology safety. Students will also learn a variety of programs such as word, PowerPoint, and excel. Some of the projects we will be working on are: fakebook (fake Facebook pages representing historical figures), planning a vacation across America, political Venn diagrams, all about me and PowerPoint.

About Me:

I graduated from The Ohio State University with a Master’s degree in Middle Childhood Education focusing on math and social studies. I am married with 3 children (Alex – 17, Andy – 14, and Lindsay – 12). I grew up just outside Baltimore, Maryland and moved to Ohio 13 years ago.
